VOTER VITALS September 2024 Edition – National Tracking Poll
The September 2024 edition of Voter Vitals – a nationwide tracking poll conducted by LSG for the Partnership for America’s Health Care Future – shows that an overwhelming majority of voters in key 2024 battleground states express more support for building on America’s current health care system than creating government-run health care systems like the public option.
Building on our current health care system remains the most popular health care proposal among voters. Also, most Americans in battleground states would be less likely to vote for a candidate who supports creating a new government-run health care system.
THE FACTS
- A majority of likely voters (53%) are SATISFIED with our health insurance system overall, and satisfaction with individual plans is HIGH nationally (75%) and across battleground states (73-77%).
- BUILDING ON our current system earns much more support nationally (71%) and in battleground states (70-80%) than creating a new government-run health insurance system like the public option.
- Most voters (52%) trust the FREE MARKET more than the federal government to manage health care – especially in battleground states: PA (59%), AZ (58%), GA (58%), MI (57%), and WI (54%).
- A majority of likely voters continue to be UNWILLING to pay any more for health care (77%) or in taxes (71%) to fund the creation of a public option.
- Most voters nationally (54%) and in battleground states (53-59%) would be LESS likely to vote for a lawmaker who supports creating a new government-run health insurance system.
THE TAKEAWAY
When it comes to the future of health care, voters in key states that will help determine the 2024 election say that they do NOT support creating new, government-controlled systems like the public option or Medicare for All.
Instead, voters want policymakers to build on what’s already working in health care and expand access to affordable, high-quality care.
