Celebrating the Start of Medicare Open Enrollment
Today, Medicare Open Enrollment begins for eligible American seniors and individuals living with disabilities — lasting until December 7, 2018. With over 58 million individuals currently enrolled in the program, Medicare helps Americans live longer and healthier lives.
Whether an individual recently turned 65 and is enrolling for the first time, or is a current beneficiary, Medicare Open Enrollment provides the opportunity to shop for coverage through Medicare Advantage plans, opt in to the prescription drug benefit offered by Medicare Part D, or switch between Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Any changes in coverage during this period take effect on January 1, 2019.
Between 2016 and 2017, nearly 1.5 million Americans enrolled in Medicare and this annual open enrollment period is a fundamental part of the American health care system.
