Partnership Statement On Tonight’s Presidential Debate

WASHINGTON – The Partnership for America’s Health Care Future issued the following statement in reaction to tonight’s presidential debate:

“Health care continues to be a top issue for voters, which is why it’s no surprise that the issue took center stage again at tonight’s debate,” said Lauren Crawford Shaver, executive director of the Partnership for America’s Health Care Future.  “But instead of calling for one-size-fits-all new government health insurance systems, like Medicare for All, Medicare buy-in and the public option, candidates should instead prioritize building on what’s working and fixing what isn’t.  Independent studies confirm that these new one-size-fits-all systems would threaten Americans’ access to affordable, high-quality health care by forcing them to pay more to wait longer for worse care.  With nearly 90 percent of Americans covered, millions more eligible for coverage and a majority satisfied with the health care they receive, it doesn’t make sense to start over with a one-size-fits-all system.”
