VOTER VITALS June 2023 Edition – A Health Care Tracking Poll

The June 2023 edition of Voter Vitals – a nationwide tracking poll conducted by LSG for the Partnership for America’s Health Care Future – shows that a majority of likely voters are satisfied with America’s current health insurance system overall. A majority of voters do not support the public option or Medicare for All, and building on and improving our current system remains the most popular health care reform proposal.

THE FACTS

  • A majority of likely voters (51%) are SATISFIED with America’s current health insurance system overall, and an even larger majority (73%) are SATISFIED with their current health insurance plan.
  • The most popular reform proposal remains building on and improving our current system (65% support). Meanwhile, a majority do NOT support the public option (49% support) or Medicare for All (49% support).
  • A majority (53%) do NOT trust the federal government to design and manage a health insurance plan that meets the needs of all Americans.
  • A majority are UNWILLING to pay any more in taxes (68%) or health care costs (73%) to create a new government-run health insurance system.
  • A majority (53%) would be LESS likely to vote for a lawmaker who supports creating a new government-run health insurance system.
  • Most (77%) believe it is IMPORTANT for the federal government to increase funding for mental health services, and most (75%) believe the need for mental health care will INCREASE over the next decade.

THE TRUTH

When it comes to America’s health care future, it is clear voters do NOT support creating risky, unaffordable government-controlled health insurance systems like the public option or Medicare for All. Instead, voters want our lawmakers to continue building on what’s working in health care to expand access to affordable, high-quality health coverage and care for every American.
